History of British Gold Shengxiao Lunar Series Coins
The Shengxiao collection is the Royal Mints first ever lunar collection and began in 2014 to celebrate the Chinese year of the Horse. The British Mint will release one coin a year ending with the snake in 2025.
Thanks to the prestige and uniqueness of the coins, the British Shengxiao gold coins rival the Perth Mints Lunar series and are tipped to surpass the already successful Australian collection.
The British Shengxiao collection pays tribute to the ancient Chinese zodiac and combines the traditions of these two great nations in a series of gold coins that promise to be popular assets that provide investors with increased spending power. The coins available for Gold IRAs are:
Year of the Horse (2014)
Year of the Sheep (2015)

Design of British Shengxiao Lunar Series Gold coins
The 12 coins celebrated in the British Shengxiao Lunar series have a different design each year to reflect the animal that aligns with the lunar calendar of the ancient Chinese.
Each of the designs are rendered by British-born Chinese artist Wuon-Gaen-Ho who was commissioned by the Royal Mint to create a dynamic collection of motifs that reflect the traditions of Britain and China.
The obverse side of the coins feature the right-facing bust of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II designed by the Royal Mints official engravers. The 2014 and 2015 editions are the work of Ian Rank-Broadley and the 2016 version to date were realised by Jody Clark. The coins also bear the Latin inscription “Elizabeth II Dei Gra Regina Fid Def” which means “By the Grace of God, Queen-Defender of the Faith.”
